Scottish Celtic powerhouse band Skipinnish has announced its highly-anticipated, brand-new single, Summer Call, set for release on Friday 19th August.
The lyrics are full of beautiful imagery, transporting listeners to Scotland’s most scenic land and seascapes. With an energetic, rhythmic tempo and themes of optimism, gratitude and hope, the timely released Summer Call has all the makings of a Scottish summer anthem.
Fans have been eagerly anticipating new music from the celebrated nine-piece band, and Summer Call could not have come at a better time. The band are riding high this month as The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo features two of their most celebrated hits, Walking on the Waves and The Hag Set, as part of the iconic show’s grand finale, which will be watched by an estimated 100 million viewers worldwide at home on TV and a live audience of more than 200,000 over the course of the three-week run.
Playing on the new single is Norrie MacIver on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Angus MacPhail on accordion and backing vocals, Andrew Stevenson on whistles, Rory Grindlay on drums, Archie McAllister on the fiddle, Davie Dunsmiur on electric guitar, Alasdair Murray on whistles, Alistair Iain Paterson on keyboards and Charlotte Printer on bass guitar, with guests Rachel Walker, Seonaidh MacIntyre and Jarlath Henderson on backing vocals, whistles and Uilean pipes, respectively.
The track was recorded at GloWorm Studios in Glasgow over four weeks this summer and the delight of the band members at playing together again is palpable.
Angus MacPhail, co-founder of the band, said: “It’s been three long years since we’ve released anything and what a wonderful feeling to be making music again! We are so grateful to all our fans who have stuck with us through the tough times of no music and lives turned upside down by Covid. This song is for them and all who “ride the seventh wave” with Skipinnish.
“Our world is getting back to normal, music has returned and the summer call of gigs is stronger than ever! We’re looking forward hugely to playing the song live for the first time under Stirling Castle on August 20th.”
The band has been riding an ever-growing wave of popularity since they began way back in 1999. With hit after hit of self-penned songs and a strong mix of powerful bagpipe, fiddle and accordion led tune sets, they encompass the very best of contemporary Celtic music.
Skipinnish will play Summer Call live for the first time at Stirling’s City Park on Saturday 20th August, supported by Big Country, Eddi Reader and Sandi Thom. This performance will take place at the biggest venue they have played to date, with a crowd of more than 5,000, marking the band’s welcome return.
Summer Call will be available to download and stream from Friday 19th August 2022. Tickets for the Stirling City Park are available from the Ticketline website
