Spencer Mackenzie is a young blues artist who plays like a veteran. He’s released three albums, and there’s a lot more to come. He’s living proof that the future of the Blues is in good hands.
Ken Wallis interviewed Spencer Mackenzie for the radio show, BluesSource Canada. The following are excerpts from that interview, amended and edited for clarity and brevity.

Spencer MacKenzie came away with a couple of awards at the 2025 Niagara Music Awards and here to fill us in is Spencer MacKenzie.
Hey Spencer, great seeing you again.
Spencer Mackenzie
Good to see you as always.
Ken Wallis
So tell us a little bit about these awards
Spencer Mackenzie
The Niagara Music Awards has been going on for, I would say, just over 10 years I believe. They took a little break during COVID, but it's really a nice event.
The Niagara region, although it's really big and it covers a lot of area, it really is a tight-knit community full of great people. I've grown up in Fort Erie, just outside of Niagara Falls. So glad to be a part of it and there's so many great talents. My first two records we're done with producers and teams from here with all my teachers. There's some influences and all that great stuff.
Ken Wallis
What were the two awards for?
Spencer Mackenzie
The two awards were for Best Blues Artist and Best Album Of The Year.
It has a little testament to the Blues because the best album category, doesn't matter what you wear, it’s just about the album itself. And so that was kind of a really big honor to win that amongst some other genres.
Ken Wallis
And what was the album that won?
Spencer Mackenzie
Preach To My Soul, my most recent album
Ken Wallis
A great, great album. And I bet you're probably going to play one or two of those songs from that album because you're coming up to a very special event that's happening on May 27.
Spencer Mackenzie
And of course I'm going to. I'm going to do it with a kickass band as well, and some great people. It’s The Escarpment Blues Society First Anniversary concert and I’m so excited to be part of that.
Ken Wallis
It’s a star-studded lineup of artists that will be there. Spencer, we're looking forward to seeing you that night and hearing you play. It's going to be a great night.
Spencer Mackenzie
I can't wait.
