Colin Clyne
Colin Clyne is an award winning Scottish singer/songwriter (Alt-Folk / ,Americana).
Having spent 10 years in California, Clyne is now back in Scotland blazing a trail in the UK music scene. He left San Diego as a 2 time winner of ‘The Best Acoustic Act’ at the prestigious San Diego Music Awards. In the US, NBC featured Colin in a top 12 list of best singer songwriters associated with San Diego in amongst Tom Waits, Jewel and the late Jim Croce.
In addition to his previous album, Doricana, The Never Ending Pageant was produced by Grammy Award Winning Engineer, Alan Sanderson, (The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Ryan Adams, Burt Bacharach).
‘Pageant’ reached #6 on the iTunes Country album charts and his song Top of the Mountain was a Finalist in the 2014 UK Songwriting contest. STV (Scottish TV) hailed Colin as a ‘…rising star of Scotland…’ with The Sun newspaper describing his ‘The Never Ending Pageant’ album as ‘…a glorious selection of folk and county rock numbers…’ akin to Ryan Adams or Bruce Springsteen.
Clyne has become a seasoned road vet, impressing crowds at venues from Hollywood’s infamous Viper Room to Aberdeen, Scotland’s Blue Lamp. He has also racked up numerous festivals appearances including The Tartan Heart Festival (Belladrum), Southern Fried Festival, Enjoy Music Festival, True North and sold out The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Clyne appeared at the 2012 Stonehaven Hogmany Party in Scotland, where he opened the stage for International touring band The Red Hot Chilli Pipers in front of 6,000 party goers.
He has also shared the stage with the likes of Dave Arcari, James Grant (Love & Money), Big Country, Donnie Munro (Runrig), Justin Currie (Del Amitri), Skerryvore, Mark Olsen (Jayhawks), Nigel Clark (Dodgy) and performed at a VIP event for Elton John.
Radio play for Colin’s latest album continues to be celebrated with airplay with “Whispering” Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2, Keith Greentree with BBC Radio Norfolk, Baylen Leonard of BBC London/Amazing Radio, BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Scotland, BBC Radio Cumbria, BBC Radio Shropshire, BBC Tees, BBC Mereyside, BBC Hereford & Worceter, Amazing Radio, XFM, Best Country Radio (The Iceman), Roots & Fusion, Chris Country Radio, UKCountryRadio, Blues & Roots Radio and many more radio stations across the globe.
We asked Colin to answer a few Rapid Fire questions.
1. Waltz or Polka
Quite a few of the songs on my album ‘Doricana’ were in a Waltz, so waltz it is!
2. Dog or Cat
We have a big old furry Siberian cat called Diego at home.
3. Ballad or Upbeat song
I love writing and listening to both.
4. Coffee or Tea
I like coffee in the morning and tea in the evening.
5. Acoustic or Electric Guitar
Well, I have 3 electric guitars and approx 15 acoustic guitars....so, acoustic!
6. Beer, Wine, Liquor, Non-Alcoholic
yes, yes, yes, no!
7. Bongos or Cajon
I’ve recorded and gigged with a cajon. Always loved its simplistic sound.
8. Sports Car or SUV
I’ve got a young family now so SUV
9. House or Apartment
I currently live in a house, handy for storing guitars and the 8 million toy dolls we have!
10. Country Music or Rock
Somewhere in the middle with a dash of Scotch!!
11. Perform Standing or Sitting
I like both. It’s all about the setting.
12. Shower or Bath
I love the idea of a bath but never have the time.
13. Indian Cuisine or Spanish Cuisine
Truly love both
14. Country or City Living
I grew up in a small town in Scotland but love the energy of city living
15. CD or Vinyl
I love the crackle of vinyl.
