War & Pierce Deliver A Powerful Amen On New Release

Los Angeles based Folk / Soul duo War & Pierce is one of those groups that falls firmly in the ‘you’ve heard them, even if you have not heard of them,’ camp...

Guitarist Sunny War is a solo artist with 5 independent albums out, has performed with or opened for legends such as Keb Mo, Booker T., Angelique Kidjo and Mavis Staples. Sunny War’s intricate guitar picking will allow listeners to understand why Rolling Stone magazine pegged her as “one of 10 new country artists you need to know.”

Soul Singer/Songwriter Chris Pierce has been heard on films and TV shows such as This is Us, Rosewood, Soul Men and Crash. Chris has 8 independent albums out and has shared the stage with Seal, Al Green, B.B King, Rodrigo y Gabriella, Keb Mo and Jill Scott, just to name a few. Pierce has also released eight independent albums. Sunny War, Chris Pierce, along with highly regarded songwriter and producer Jared Faber, give a preview of what listeners can expect on their upcoming EP out in 2021 with the song “Amen.”

“Amen” is a track that erases the lines between secular and sacred as well as country, soul and contemporary hip-hop infused R&B.  The way that soul man Chris Pierce’s buttery falsetto caresses and enunciates “Amen’s” politically charged yet spiritually profound lyrics brings to mind Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye. The addition of a contemporary approach on a classic vibe makes “Amen” a solid track that offers something for everyone.

Chris Pierce & Sunny War had a friend in common, musician and producer Jared Faber. Faber thought the two should meet and that they might hit it off….maybe there was some music to be made amongst them.

Pierce, War and Faber got together at Faber’s Silver Lake studio to meet and out of that initial meeting, the first song written and recorded by the three was born entitled “Any Day Now”. They all felt so inspired by the luck of their first encounter that they tried to repeat it…to see if lightning could indeed strike twice. Each time they got together they wrote and recorded what would ultimately become their debut album, the self titled “War & Pierce”.

Originally from Nashville, TN, Sunny War (born Sydney Lyndella Ward) is a force of nature that is tough to pin down. Her style lies somewhere between Punk and early blues. Yes, she may be a Robert Johnson with a shot of Bad Brains, but even this description falls short. The only way to really know Sunny is to immerse oneself in her music. Sunny’s inimitable guitar technique mixed with her haunting vocal sound is unique & intoxicating. As a solo artist she has opened for Booker T, Keb’ Mo’, Madeleine Peyroux, Mindy Smith, The Levon Helm Band, & Angelique Kijo among others. Jared Faber

Jared is a Grammy winning song writer/producer and Emmy nominated Film & TV composer. He was musical director/band leader for the Guys Choice awards in 2011. Recent TV and film credits include ABC’s Selfie, Suburgatory, Screen Jems’ “Mardi Gras: Spring Break” (staring Josh Gadd) and song producer for Sony Pictures’ upcoming “The Wedding Ringer” staring Kevin Hart. He co-wrote and co-produced the Beto Cuevas album “Transformación” which won the 2013 Latin Grammy for best Pop/Rock Album. He has written TV theme songs recorded by Macy Gray, Leann Rimes and Jenny O. His Cuba recorded project Urban Legend with partner Kool Kojak topped the CMJ world charts and got much critical acclaim and numerous TV/Film placements.

"War plays some tasty guitar and Pierce has that delivery, that credence. This is High quality & zero BS which is important for me. It’s important we learn what it looks like when people really mean what they’re saying, not just acting like they do. These two are a great example of a subtle and profound belief in what they’re saying and doing.“ - YOLA
