Toronto-Based R&B Singer-Songwriter, Aqyila, Named Spotify RADAR Canada Artist Of The Month

By Megan Routledge.

Toronto-based R&B singer-songwriter, Aqyila is officially Spotify’s RADAR Canada Flagship Artist of the Month for February 2024. The announcement comes just as she is ready to release her next viral hit, “Bloom,” on February 9.

By joining Spotify’s acclaimed global emerging artists program, fans will have the opportunity to learn more about the breakout artist with their “Clips” series through short videos and editorial support on official Spotify playlists.

The RADAR program is grounded in supporting emerging artists from across the globe. While the program is global, each region has also tailored a local offering to resonate with their unique music culture and audience. Each market will support local artists based on their needs and market expertise, all under Spotify’s emerging artist umbrella: RADAR.

With over 25M Spotify streams, Aqyila is a Canadian artist poised to make her mark on the R&B music scene. No stranger to social media virality and global recognition, Aqyila’s 2022 debut single release, “Vibe for Me (Bob For Me)” resulted in her first ever nomination for a JUNO Award in the Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year category. 2023 saw Aqyila release her debut EP, For The Better in May. The project was an introspective collection that drew inspiration from the highs and lows of her own personal journey and included the viral track, “Hello” which racked up 8M Spotify streams. Returning with more music to release this year, Aqyila continues to establish her distinct musical style, fusing elements of R&B, soul, and pop while maintaining the vulnerability that leads to the relatable music which resonates so deeply with her audience.

In addition to being named Spotify RADAR Canada’s February ambassador, Aqyila has also landed the Spotify Canada digital billboard downtown Toronto and secured the cover of top Spotify playlist, “Mood Ring,” twice.

Toronto R&B artist, Taahira Aqiyla Duff, known to her fans simply as Aqyila, is starting 2024 off strong. With the release of the highly-anticipated single, “Bloom,” Aqyila looks to build on the success of her debut EP, For The Better. In 2021, her first single, “Vibe for Me (Bob for Me),” racked up over 10 million streams worldwide and landed her first JUNO Award nomination for ‘Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year.’ Since then, Aqyila has only seen more growth and success. She was tapped as an ambassador for TikTok’s #RnBmonth in November 2022 and has landed opening spots for other talented artists like Kimbra and Cat Burns. The rising star’s EP, For The Better, was released last year featuring “Pressure,” and “OH,” both songs showcasing her maturing vocals and songwriting skills. “Hello,” another song on the EP deeply resonated with her audience on TikTok and has become another viral fan favourite.
