PREMIERE: Canadian Singer-Songwriter Kae Shelby Releases 'This Time' From Upcoming Album 'Unbroken'

By Stevie Connor.

Kae Shelby's debut album, Music & Motorcycles, hit us right between the eyes, and we never saw it coming. It garnered rave reviews from across Canada and around the world, we've had a sneak peek of the new album, Unbroken, and can truly say it's a spectacular follow up, Kae has kept with the winning formula of her original core writing and production team, and has hit it right out of the park on Unbroken.

Kae Shelby leads the charge with the single 'This Time', the lyric video is premiered here at The Sound Cafe, it's an anthemic and wonderfully produced track co-written with acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter North Easton, who also designed the beautifully crafted lyric video, which can be viewed below.

Kae says of the new album, "Every album has a story. This is the story of Unbroken. It started with the writing of “Resurrection Baby”, a song of healing and resurrecting from an uninvited, unexpected hurt. The last song written, “Unbroken”, well that is about it becoming safe to let love in again, that easy, gentle love exists. The ten songs of this album, tell the story of moving out of and into, whatever that might be for you!

Unbroken is the story of our capacity to heal our own hearts, forgive ourselves, and let beauty, love and grace, in again. For one’s self first, for that is the only space in which, beauty, love and grace can find you. This album is in its own way, a teacher, reminding us to always be curious about how good life and love can be. That when we live from that place, of curiosity, our capacity to become unbroken is infinite."

This past summer Kae set off from Ottawa on an 1800 mile road trip headed for Austin, Texas with Kae's Krew, her loyal backroom team in Canada (which includes The Sound Cafe columnist, Jo Louks). They documented the epic trip and recording sessions with US-based, Canadian music maestro, Anders Drerup, and his amazing team. Following on from Music & Motorcycles, Unbroken is the second in a trilogy of albums that Kae Shelby is releasing.

The album was recorded and produced by Anders Drerup, who Kae used for her debut album, and was recorded at Same Sky Production Recording Studio and Anders Drerup Music in Austin, Texas. The engineering was completed in Kae's home province of Ontario, by Steve Foley at Audio Valley Sound Recording Studio, and mastering was done by Jason Fee at Conduction mastering both based in Ottawa.

The players on the album in Texas were, Kae Shelby - Lead Vocals, Anders Drerup – Piano, Organ, Synthesizer, Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Harmonica, Background Vocals, Andrew Pressman – Bass Guitar, Stand Up Bass, Nick Chambers – Drums, Percussion, Ruby Jane Smith – Fiddle/Violin and Alyssa Longoria – Back Up Vocals. Kae kept to her original core writing team of Anders Drerup and North Easton, with the addition of songwriter Jay Quinlan for Unbroken.

Kae Shelby will launch the album at Pepperwood 1455 Lakeshore Road, Burlington, Ontario on Saturday, October 28th.
