Oka Vanga Set to Release Much Anticipated Third Album

The third album from versatile Folk/ Americana duo Oka Vanga blends a rich palette of strings, frets, and percussion with a foot stomping groove. From the authentic old- time groove of Beneath The Apple Tree, to the high energy of Seek & Run Angie has a timeless voice that lends itself to the authenticity of her song writing and emotive lyrics. Strong energetic guitar lines are framed with intricate threads of mandolin and ukulele to create a colourful set of eight songs and four instrumental traditional tunes that have good pace and variety. Bows Of Yew is a visceral nod to their folk roots whilst the quiet artisan beauty of Johanna is offset by the foot-stomping free- wheeling Whisky For Sorrow.
Stellar contributions from guest musicians Patsy Reid (violin, viola, cello) and John Parker (double bass) frame the album and there is a subtle mix of musical influences that gives Oka Vanga an exciting edge. Released by Crazy Bird Records, Oka Vanga is due for release on 26th March 2021 and is available on both CD and special edition Vinyl (CraBV006). Originally from South Africa, Angie (Angela Meyer) met Londoner Will (William Cox) at an open mic night where they found instant music synergy. With a hybrid of musical influences between them their debut album Pilgrim (2014) won them an instant fan base along with a FATEA award and an invitation to represent the UK at the International Madame Guitar Festival.
Shortly after they released Tales Of Eyam (2015, EP) which garnered them both national and international radio play including BBC radio 3 and an even wider fan base. Their second album Dance Of The Copper Trail (2017) saw them complete sell out shows on a nine month tour of theatres and festivals including an invitation to play at Cambridge Folk Festival.
