Juno Nominated Canadian Blues Artist Miss Emily Has Released Poignant New Single 'The Medicine'

Recently Juno nominated, Canadian blues singer Miss Emily has released a poignant single, “The Medicine,” inspired by the people around her who succumbed to their addictions, and how it affected their families and the children left behind.

“The main goal of this song is to help families affected by this epidemic feel like they aren’t alone,” said Miss Emily. “Their stories and the stories of their loved ones are important and that the current opioid abuse crisis is one worth drawing more attention to.”

The Medicine” was recorded at Noble Street Studio in Toronto with multiple Grammy and Juno award winning producer Gavin Brown. It features Chris Caddell (Big Wreck, Colin James) on guitar, Marc Rogers (Susan Tedeschi, The Philosopher Kings) on bass, Gavin Brown on drums and Matt Kelly (City and Colour) on keys.

Full-time musician, 8th generation Prince Edward County born Miss Emily has called Kingston, Ontario home now for nearly 18 years. In late 2020 ‘Miss Emily LIVE at The Isabel’ was released to an international audience with overwhelmingly positive reviews. This release followed up her 2017 album ‘In Between’ featuring Gord Sinclair & Rob Baker from The Tragically Hip and garnered much interest from the blues community, for which she is very grateful.

Miss Emily is currently nominated for the 2021 Maple Blues Award ‘Female Vocalist of the Year.’ In February 2020 she won two Maple Blues Awards (New Artist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year) and was nominated for Entertainer of the Year.

Emily has five appearances at Ottawa Blues Fest to date and her 2019 summer festival season included Montreal Jazz Fest, Harvest Jazz & Blues Fest in Fredericton and Summertime Blues Fest in Nanaimo, among many others. Emily finished off her year 2019 with an overseas tour playing 14 shows in seven countries with the Light Of Day Organization raising money and awareness for Parkinson’s Disease research.
