Briga to launch her fifth album Territoire

Born to a Quebecois mother and a Polish father, Briga is a Montreal-based writer, composer, performer, violinist and multi-instrumentalist. She already has four albums to her credit: Diaspora, Turbo Folk Stories, Wake and Femme, which have toured across Canada, the United States and Europe.

Her fifth album, Territoire, challenges our standard conception of traditional folk music (Quebec, Irish, Bulgarian, etc.) as a genre and heredity, instead favouring a more flexible definition. The album rather reflects the reality of the Canadian musical landscape, one which offers a diversity of traditional styles and influences. We're verging on the creation of a "new folk", inspired by a wave of renewal representing one’s unique identity à la Jeremy Dutcher or Tanya Tagaq. On this studio album recorded in full confinement, Briga offers collaborations with BLISK, Tamar Ilana and ALI X.

Nominated in 2018 for a JUNO award and several times at both the Canadian Folk Music Awards and Gala ADISQ, her style has been described as Turbo Folk wrapped in Balkan and Maghrebian grooves. Her influences drawing mainly from her Eastern European origins, she succeeds in seamlessly weaving them into a typically-Montreal sound.

Indie Montreal's IMTL Press is pleased to announce the launch of Territoire, Briga's fifth album, scheduled for release on October 29. The artist will offer a digital performance of her new album, accompanied by her musicians, live from legendary recording studio Hotel2Tango in Montreal's Mile End.

The event will be broadcast free on Briga's YouTube Cannel on October 29 at 8pm. www.youtube.com/channel/
