Sámi band, Solju, will release a new album "Uvjamuohta" (Powder Snow) September 9th, and as part of the build up a digital single "Oassi mus" (a Part of Me) from the album was released May 27th!
Ulla Pirttijärvi and her daughter Hildá Länsman, combine their heritage of northern Sámi language and traditional chant, known as yoik, providing a dialogue of traditional and modern Sámi culture. They're proud of their indigenous roots and want to show it to the world!
Solju's music combines the Sámi language and joik in new and innovative soundscapes. Solju proudly brings out its Sámi roots, the rich tones and worlds of northern culture and joiku music. Lively, earthy, colourful, original, but on the other hand also ethereal and picturesque are the words that the creators themselves use to characterize their music.
The songs reflect echoes of the traditional way of life and mythology of northern Lapland, with Sami identity at its core. Solju's music creates images of both great infinity in boundless wildernesses and palpable intimacy in the captivating circle of log fires. The listener is taken on a journey to the northern edge of Europe.

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra - strings, Paavo Lötjönen - cello, Mikko Neuvonen - throat vocals and Janne Puurtinen - synthesizer are also guests on the album.
