LAPWYNG Announce Release of Reimagined EP The Remyxes

Eclectic folk trio LAPWYNG have announced the release of The Remyxes, a reimagining of their self-titled debut EP, coming Friday 16 April.

LAPWYNG constantly strive to push genre boundaries with a style rooted in folk music but drawing on jazz, indie and Scandinavian influences to create a unique sound. Formed in 2018, the band is comprised of Ewen White (accordion, synths), Euan McLaughlin (fiddle, guitar) and Alasdair MacKenzie (guitar).

Unable to be together due to the pandemic, LAPWYNG took the opportunity to collaborate with fellow musicians remotely, something they may not have done otherwise. The result is The Remyxes, a reworked version of their self-penned and self-titled debut EP, with each guest artist remixing and adding their own artistic finesse and electronic twist to a particular track. The EP features traditional electronic duo Valtos, INYAL, Tom Spirals and Edinburgh folktronica band Yoko Pwno featuring Sarya, who all add their own flair to produce a completely original body of work from a unique perspective. Sought-after multi-instrumentalist Innes White also features throughout the EP.

A collaborative piece, The Remyxes involves an array of artists as well as various in-demand professionals mixing, producing and mastering a track each from their respective homes.

Euan said: “The idea behind this EP was to create a reimagined version of our original EP. We’ve been wanting to release something collaborative for a while so this was our chance to work with a bunch of our friends and hopefully open our music to new audiences.

“It was exciting to mix our sound with electronic music to create a folktronica EP and something a bit different for us. The Remyxes has also been an opportunity to release new music at a time where we’re separated as a band between Skye and Glasgow and unable to write together.”

Based in Glasgow, LAPWYNG won the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in 2020 and haven’t looked back since, releasing a string of singles following their debut EP, to high acclaim. The dynamic folk trio quickly became in-demand within the Scottish music scene, performing across the country and opening for award-winning artists including Josie Duncan, Assynt, The Paul McKenna Band and HEISK.

LAPWYNG have also previously worked with Andy Monaghan of Frightened Rabbit, which resulted in them writing and releasing their most recent single Heather & Cosmos.
