Having released a new album titled 'Peines Perdues' on May 12th, François-Félix Roy presents a repertoire with folk/trad colours, focused on the intimate relationship between voice and guitar. Produced by Éric Beaudry (De Temps Antan, La Bottine Souriante), this album consists of traditional airs and modern compositions inspired by them.
The album launch event will take place on May 30th at Petit Campus, with Éric Beaudry as a special guest. The launch will be followed by a trad jam hosted by Sophie Lavoie (Grosse Isle) and Nicolas Babineau (Babineau/Chartrand).
François-Félix Roy will also present his album at several events, including May 18-19-20 for the 23rd Acoustic Night at the National Theatre of Genoa in Italy, with Beppe Gambetta, Aysanabee, and Matteo Leone, as well as on Saturday, July 1st at the Chants de Vieilles festival.
'Peines Perdues' brings together multiple influences, from Irish folk singers to classical guitar, to jazzy accents. A significant part of the repertoire comes from research in public archives, following the thread of expressive themes reflecting human nature, such as war, forbidden or flourishing love, separation from loved ones, or melancholy.
François-Félix Roy is a new and refreshing face rising in the Québécois traditional music scene. His unique approach combines the liveliness of traditional music with the nuance and subtlety folksingers are known for. He explores Québécois traditional music with its reels and waltzes reimagined through delightful, heartfelt fingerstyle arrangements. Winner of the 2022 Aldor Emerging Artist Award presented by the Trad Montreal Festival, his music has earned prizes in Canada and in the USA, where juries have lauded his instrumental mastery as well as the genuineness of his enthralling performances.
