Canadian Songwriting Duo JJ ROOTS Release Boxcars & Memoirs

JJ ROOTS 2018/19 Boxcars & Memoirs Tour was exceptional. Because fans loved this show opening theme song so much, Jeff Scott Gray and Jocelyn Parlee decided to record and release this fan favourite alternative folk tune.

Boxcars & Memoirs' rhythmic energy and crafted lyrics encapsulates remnants of nostalgia, an era of travellers and their songs. At the heart of folk music is sharing with the listener lyrical visions and sounds, and so, Boxcars & Memoirs is a heartfelt poetic melody of the old railway.

It has been said that performers, using simply their voices and instruments, are artists who relate collective stories through their songs. The roots of this are in traditional music, but it is by no means all traditional. This epitomizes JJ ROOTS.

JJ ROOTS exploded onto the East Coast Music scene with the launch of their self produced debut album “Here Goes Something”.

This Canadian songwriting duo cuts to the core of listeners' emotions as they showcase the music that inspires them through their original “JJROOTified” covers while inspiring profound responses from audiences by way of soul-lifting vocals and powerful melodic riffs within their highly impactful original music.

Combining the diverse talents and backgrounds of Jocelyn Parlee and Jeff Scott Gray, the JJ ROOTS sound can rarely be categorized. Their musical vibe has been referenced to such greats as Buffy Sainte-Marie, Joan Baez, and Fleetwood Mac.

In under 2 years since forming the duo, Jeff & Jocelyn have experienced sold out concerts on tour, various TV and Radio appearances on CTV, Global, and CBC, and won the 2019 Overall Folk/Americana Duo of the Year at the International JMA Music Awards in Tennessee. Their second time, year over year, winning this highly competitive international title!

They show no sign of slowing down as they continue to create and transform their newly developed Alt Contemporary sound with renowned producer/engineer Paul Milner of Trillium House Studio on their sophomore album set to launch in 2021.
