Australia's Surf Coast Troubadour, Don Hillman, Delivers Tales Of Life & Living On 'Daydreamin'

By Stevie Connor.

Don Hillman is an Australian singer-songwriter in the grand tradition of the craft and artistry.

Listen to his finely chiselled lyrics, his languid delivery and vocal intonations and you’ll hear echoes of such great artists as Richard Clapton, Goanna, Don Walker, The Dingoes and Paul Kelly.

Hillman’s songs are the complete package. Everything fits together just the way it should. The playing augments the songs but never dominates them. The vocals are way out front and the lyrics – well, they’re as good as they come.

There’s a groove to Hillman’s music. A slight swagger, a presence, he’s looking you in the eye as he delivers his tales of life and living.

Daydreamin is a new album by the Surf Coast troubadour and songwriter. The 12 track album harnesses the mastery of John Salerno on drums, Marcel Yammouni on bass and guitar, Bruce Haymes on keys and Garrett Costigan on prodigious pedal steel. Olivia Nathan provides backing vocals. Three tracks (# 8, 10 & 12) also include Jeff Raglus on flugelhorn and trumpet. The album was recorded at Diamond Creek.

Don continues to create and hone his superb songs, and performs with his band, Don Hillman’s Secret Beach.
